The U.S. Air Force SBIR/STTR Program Office has awarded Air Logistics and Engineering Consultants (ALAE), Inc., a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract to develop a reconfigurable interface test adapter (RTA) to ensure efficient, cost-effective test program set (TPS) transportability. This innovative project will provide significant life cycle sustainment cost savings while increasing reliability and maintainability of Automated Test Systems (ATS) used to repair/return critical avionics assets to warfighters. In particular, the innovation will decrease sustainment cost and increase mission capable rates for Air Force Sustainment Command (AFSC) Supply Chain Management (SCM), USAF SPOs, USAF ATE SPO, and the 402nd EMXG/SMXS stakeholders. This will be accomplished by facilitating a more rapid and cost effective method to retire legacy ATS/ATE when moving TPSs to modern ATS.

ALAE is proud to announce that it has achieved the Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®) Level 2 rating. This achievement marks ALAE’s most recent milestone in enhancing its quality processes.
ALAE demonstrated Maturity Level 2 compliance with CMMI for Development (CMMI-DEV) v1.3 (Continuous) during an independent appraisal by The Process Company (TPC), LLC. The appraisal examined the company’s software development programs and confirmed that the standards in place for project management, software development, systems integration, and quality assurance were well-defined, repeatable, and effective.

Dr. Douglas Brown has joined ALAE Consultants on January 19, 2015 as Senior Research Engineer responsible for expanding ALAE’s R&D capabilities in the area of advanced diagnostics and prognostics. Dr. Brown has over ten years of experience developing and maturing Prognostics & Health Management (PHM) and fault-tolerant control systems for both avionics and biomedical applications. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2006 and the M.S/Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2008 and 2011, respectively. He is a recipient of the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship sponsored through the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) and has received several best-paper awards in his work in PHM and fault-tolerant control.
